Councilman Bill Perkins blames bizarre behavior on ‘health issues’

City Councilman Bill Perkins on Friday said he has “been confronting health issues” as he tried to downplay a bizarre incident the night before in which cops were called because he was acting s🐼o erratically.

Perkins’ neighbors called police on the 68-year-old Harlem lawmaker around 9:30 p.m. over his behavior, which included shouting and throwing objects inside his Manhattan home, sources told The Pos🔥t.

He was ultimately taken toꦉ Metropolitan Hospital Center for a psychiatric evaluation.

“Last night, smoke generating from burning food resulted in fire and police response,♕ some noise and commotion and a hospital visit,” Perkins said in a statement. “I thank the responders for their work and help.”

Perkins went on to say: “As a cancer survivor, it’s no secret I’ve been confronting health issues related to medical treatment I previously received.

“I am working with doctors to manage these concerns.”

Adding that he has “always been known to be loud and vociferous on behalf on my constituents,” Perkins said, “As someone who runs marathons and has overcome obstacles my entire life, I look forward to conquering these challenges and continuing to serve this community I love and have fought for.”

Two City Council members who did not want to be named told The Post on Friday that the longtime Democratic pol’s behavior has become bizarre in recent months.

“I think it’s been pretty obvious lately that something is really off with him,” said one council member. “He’s clearly out of it. He’s lacking normal societal etiquette.”

City Council Speaker Corey Johnson spoke with Perkins Friday about the most recent incident, but is “respecting his privacy and not speaking about this matter,” a spokesperson for Johnson said.
