Will Smith’s ‘Aladdin’ genie faces Twitter backlash

Looks like Twitter users want 🦋Will Smith to put his genie back in the bottle.

During the Grammys, Disney unveiled its first trailer for director Guy Ritchie’s live-action “Aladdin” — and viewers were less than thrilled to see Will Smith’s CGI iteration of the genie. The video was panned by critics and Disney fans alike.

“The Will Smith genie makes me feel the same way I feel when a celebrity dies: Nauseous, sad, and like I can’t wait to tell everybody about it,”  , the Times’ “Carpetbagger” columnist.

“Will Smith genie is what appears in my room when I have sleep paralysis,” .

Smith along with the message, “I told y’all I was gon’ be Blue!!”

In December, the “Men in Black” star told Entertainment Weekly 🐼that he had some reservations when taking on the larger-than-life role, which was originally voiced by the late Robin Williams.

“Whenever you’re doing things that are iconic, it’s always terrifying,” Smith said. “I think it’ll stand out as unique even in the Disney world … There hasn’t been a lot of that hip-hop flavor in Disney history.”

If Smith’s goal was to create a distinct genie that will have people talking, well, mission accomplished.

“Aladdin” comes out in theaters on May 24.
