Facebook reportedly paying British newspaper for positive sponsored articles
Facebook is paying a British neš§øwspaper to publish a slew of glowing articles about the company, according to a repšort published Wednesday.
The sponsored articles in The Daily Telegraph will address hot-button issues the social media giant has been criticized about — including terrorist content, online safety, cyberbullying, fake accounts and hate speech, .
Over the last month, the paper has already published 26 articles — which are each identified to readers as sponsored — in print and online for Facebook in a series called “Being human in the information age.”
The series is produced by Telegraph Spark, the influential, 150-year-old newspaper’s sponsored content unit.
One article titled “What action is Facebook taking to tackle terrorist content?” discussed the social network’s work to get terrorist content under control.
Two days later, a whitešØ supremacist gunman killed 50 people at two mosques in New Zealand and livestreamed tšhe attack on Facebook.
Facebook spokš³esperson Vicky Gomes told Business Insider that āthis is a part of our largerš ° marketing efforts in the UK with the goal of educating and driving awareness of our local investments, initiatives, and partnerships here in the UK that have a positive impact on peopleās lives.ā
