Ed Cox will exit as New York’s GOP chief, join Trump campaign

New York’s Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox won’t be ಞseeking reelec✱tion, paving the way for Erie County GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy to fill the top post.

And Cox, the son-in-law of former President Richard Nixon who led the party since 2009, got a nice landing — he’s joining President Trumps’ re-election campaign.

“I’d like to congratulate Ed Cox on becoming the newest member of the Trump Victory finance team from New York. He has been a fantastic state party chairman for nearly a decade, and I can’t think of anyone better to help ensure we have the resources we need to compete in 2020,” said Trump 202 campaign manager Brad Parscale.

Cox plans to “remain active at both the state and natio♐nal level,”

State GOP spokeswoman Jessica Proud confirmed to The Post that Cox won’t seek re-election in July.

“Talks are underway for a transition,” Proud said.

Though native New Yorker Trump was elected president, the state party’s clout has diminished. State government is totally controlled by Democrats and Republicans haven’t won a statewide race since 2002.

Last year, Republicans lost control of the state Senate — their last bastion of power in state government.

Langworthy announced🅷 his candidacy for state chairmಌan last month, receiving a slew of endorsement from GOP county chairs across the state.
