Gilroy Garlic Festival gunman killed, manhunt underway for ‘second individual’

Police in California shot and killed the gunman who opened fire Sunday evening’s shooting at the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival — but are still on the hunt for another possible suspect.

Gilroy Police responded to reports of an active shooter on the festival grounds in Christmas Hill Park around 5ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ:41 p.m. local time.

Cops confronted the gunman within a minu🌱te and shot him dead, Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said. No information about him waꦚs immediately available.

In a press briefing around 10 p.m., Smithee said the gunman entered the festival through the north side of the park by cutting a hole in a fence — and then appeared to fire at random.

Authorities are still looking for another suspect, though it is unclear if that person was also a shooter or just there in a “support role,” Smithee said.

“We believe there was a second individual involved in some way,” Smithee said, adding that he didn’t have a description of the person to share.

Photos tweeted out by Elissa Harrington showed police in full tactical gear scouring a creek with canine units and helicopters overhead at around 8 p.m., local time.


“Law Enforcement is at the scene of shootings in Gilroy, California. Reports are that shooter has not yet been apprehended. Be careful and safe!” at around the same time.

Law enforc🎀ement on the scene have recovered a firearm and rifle ammun▨ition, officials told CNN.

At least one witness described a gunman as a white male, in his mid 30s, wearing a cap an🐈d sunglasses.

City Councilman Dion Bracco said at least three people were killed and 12 others were injured duri🌞ng the shooting at the three-day garlic celebration that attract﷽s more than 100,000 revelers.
