Chirlane McCray: America will like Bill de Blasio once they ‘get to know him’
It took Mayor Bil꧋l de Blasio’s wife weeks to warm up to♓ her future husband during his “persistent” courtship in the early 1990s, and first lady Chirlane McCray believes it’s only a matter of time before America warms up to him, too.
McCray, during a taped appearance with de Blasio on ABC’s “The View” that aired Friday, said she’s not shocked at Hizzoner’s low approval rating as he continues his long-shot bid to become president, but she believes things will improve.
“I don’t think that pe✱ople are getting anything wrong with him,” said McCray. “I just think they haven’t gotten a chance to get to know him. He just jumped into this [presidential] race weeks ago and, you know, it took a little while [for him] to w🦩in me over.”
When asked if it was “love at first sight,” McCray — who before hooking up with her future husband — conceded that the physical sparks on her end were “not instantaneous.” De Blasio agreed with his wife, laughingly blurting out, “Noooo!”
De Blasio, 58, and McCray, 64, met in 1991 while both were and were married nearly three years later. They’ve remained married for 25 years and have a son, Dante, and a ﷽dauꦡghter, Chiara.
“I just want to say it was love at first sight for me,” a smiling de Blasio said. “I he𓃲ard angels singing, violins playing, all that. And I w♕ill always say Chirlane felt absolutely nothing.”

“It felt like weeks and weeks and weeks o🅘f just trying to get her to pay attention at all.”
McCray recalled how de Blasio finally won her heart by repeatedly “hanging out” by her during work and “making jokes to get [her] attention.”
“Persistence!” de Blasio said. “♌Twenty-seven years laterꦇ. Here we are.”
During the appearance, there was no mention that de Blasio made Delta passengers wait in their seats on the tarmac at LaGuardia Airport for 10 minutes Thursday after flying back from his less-than-st⭕ellar💟 performance in the Detroit debate — so that he and his security detail could d🔯eplane first and rush off to tape the appearance on “The View.”
