Odell Beckham Jr. may be starting to crack.
As the Browns offense came off the field for the final time Sunday, unable to keep a potential game-winning drive alive, Beckham didn’t hide his frustration with not getting a look.
“I can’t get the ball to save my life,” Beckham allegedly said, according to CBS sideline reporter Jay Feely.
After the Browns 24-19 loss to the Broncos — sinking them to 2-6 on the season — Beckham had a fuzzy memory.
“I don’t recall saying that,”
Beckham said he didn’t know who Feely was and asked if there was video of him saying that.
“Controversy sells,” Beckham said.
It also seems to follow Beckham.
The star receiver had five catches on six targets for 87 yards Sunday, but didn’t get a chance to make another play with the game on the line. On a 4th-and-4 late in the fourth quarter, Beckham got a step on Broncos cornerback Chris Harris but Baker Mayfield instead threw to Jarvis Landry in double coverage. Landry (six catches on 13 targets) could not come up with the catch.
“It’s something I’m not mad at,” Beckham said. “I would throw to [Landry] on fourth down 10 times out of 10. This man, he’s going to catch the ball every single time so it was just tough. There was like two guys there on him and it was just a tough catch.’’
Beckham also voiced his displeasure over a lack of targets last week after a loss to the Patriots, when he had five catches on seven targets. He has just one touchdown this season and has only been targeted in the red zone five times all year.
Beckham did have two impressive catches earlier in the game Sunday.
“Yeah. I came here and I just want to help,” he said. “I’ve sacrificed. We’ve all sacrificed. Don’t let me make it about me. Everybody in this locker room sacrifices every single day. And I’ve given up a lot personally, habits, old things and I just want to help. I just want to be the best that I can for this team. And that’s really it. That’s all I want to do.”
