‘The Goonies’ is getting the TV treatment — with a meta twist

“The Goonies” is getting the TV treatment.

The classic 1985 Richard Donner-directed adventure movie, with a story by Steven Spielberg, will get a meta-twist on Fox. In a drama pilot penned by Sarah Watson (“The Bold Type”), a🅘 substitute teacher and her students will try to re-enact the movie.

According to the , the show’s official logline is, “After failing to make it in New York and carrying a heavy secret with her, Stella Cooper returns to her distressed automotive hometown to substitute teach. She finds inspiration, hope and ultimately salvation when she agrees to help three students who are pursuing their filmmaking dreams by putting on an impossibly ambitious shot-for-shot remake of one of their favorite movies — ‘The Goonies.’ ”

The original movie starred Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, Joe Pantoliano, Jeff Cohen and Jonathan Ke Huy Qua as a group of friends🍌 who go on a treasure hunt together in their Oregon neighborhood, ultimately saving their families from having to move away.

While there’s no word on casting for the show, it’s unlikely most of the original stars would be able to make a cameo —  Brolin (“Avengers: Endgame”) has since become a movie star, and Feldman has since focused on allegations of pedophilia in Hollywood.

However, Astin could be a possibility — the “Lord of the Rings” star has done a fair amount of TV lately, with a memorable stint in Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”

Could he make an a💧ppearance in “The Goonies” show? Time will tell. The series does not yet have a release date.
