NYPD charges Bronx man who called 911 in suicide-by-cop attempt

A coronavirus-stricken Bronx man who tried to commit suicide-by-copā™“ after calling 911 on himįƒ¦self has been arrested and charged, police said Thursday.

Ricardo Cardona, 55, was charged with attempted assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing a police officer in connection with the Wednesday morning Westchester Square shootout, cops said.

Cardona — who feared he was going to die from his infection because he is overweight and has diabetes — called 911 around 4 a.m. to report a man with a gun inside his building lobby, police sources said.

When cops responded, they found him with a ketchup-covered blade and black aź¦æntique gun, accordingšŸ¬ to officials.

Cardona ignored rź¦›epeated requests to drop his weapons, and continued to threaten the cops, sources said.

Two officers then opened fire, shooting nine times and striking him four times,ź¦‡ hitting him in the back and hip, cops said

He was rushed toź¦“ Jacobi Hospital, where he told first respšŸŒonders that he had tested positive for the virus the day before, authorities said.

He remains at JšŸ§œacobi inš“° stable condition. His arraignment was pending Thursday morning.

The two officers were not harmed.
