NYPD Special Operations gets sweet ‘Easter Bunny’ visit
NYPD Special Operations Unit got a sweet surprise when the “Easter Bunny” hopped by bearing sweet treats, according to video posted online Sunday.
A well-wishing chocolatier disguised as the hallowed hare pranced her way to several NYPD Special ops units and delivered over 2,000 pieces of chocolate from her chocolate shop over the last week,
Beneath the bunny costume was Vanessa Barg, the 35-year-old owner of Gnosis Chocolate, an online chocolate store based in Astoria, Queens.
“Throughout this pandemic my mom and I have been making chocolate, trying to get the Easter orders out in time. But we also felt helpless and disempowered. One way to combat that feeling to to take action,” she added.
“I was watching videos begin to surface of nurses and doctos who were frightened, and I tried to think of a way I could contribute. Then I realized — just do what we do — and my mom and I started making chocolate donations to local hospitals and to first responders who are on the front lines,” Barg said.
Over the last week Barg delivered her chocolates to officers from the Mounted Unit, the Aviation and Scuba teams and the K-9 team as well as the Strategic Response Group, and the Emergency Services and Harbor units, according to the video.
The one and a half-minute video shows New York’s finest, all of whom are wearing protective face masks, picking up their bags of candy and then hopping in to choppers, boarding a police boat, and standing guard near The Oculus.
The adorable video ends with the “Easter Bunny,” surrounded by officers on horseback, with her arms spread wide, and the NYPD wishing everyone a Happy Easter.
