Heartless thieves target NYC deli two days after it reopened

A pair of bandits broke into a Bronx deli and made off with thousands of dollars — just two days after the store reopened amid the coronavirus, The Post has learned.

The masked thieves broke into Phillips Gourmet Deli on East Tremont Avenue in Throgs Neck just before 4 a.m. May 1 — when they pried open two safes and took $7,200, police said.

An employee at the deli told The Post the store had only reopened two days earlier. The owner had shut up shop for over a month due to cor♔onavirus concerns.

And with the virus still a🧸ffecting local businesses, it may be a while before the store recoups theꦐ losses, he added.

“It’s slow right now, my friend,” the employee said. “People don’t come because they are scared.”

The NYPD released surveillance video of the burglars walking through ꦰthe store Tu𓃲esday.

The break-in happened as burglaries surge in the city, NYPD data shows.
