Al Sharpton will deliver eulogy at memorial service for George Floyd

The Rev. Al Sharpton will deliver the eulogy for George Floyd at an afternoon memorial service in Minnesota on Thursday, organizers say, as new details emerged about a later public viewing and f🐻uneral for the slain black man.

Sharpton will speak at the service, which will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., at North Central University in Minneapolis — the city where Floyd died in a shocking police-brutality case caught on video, on Tuesday.

Another memorial event will be held Saturday afternoon in North Carolina, where ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚFloyd was born.

A public viewing will then occur from noon to 6 p.m. Monday at the Fountain of Praise Church in Houston, Texas, the city where Floyd was raised, followed by his funeral starting atཧ 11 a.m. next Tuesday, June 9, at the facility,

“It will be a ticketed event,” organizers said of the funeral in a statement.

Floyd’s family wanted to give him a fitting send-off, Ford Bend Memorial Planning Center owner Bobby Swearington, who was hired by kin to oversee the events, told the outlet.

People from all over are offering help, he said.

“We’ve had just an outpouring from support from so many people,” Swearington said. “People wanted to send carriages and doves and arrangements to the family. Artists, monument-makers, just everyone is finding an avenue to commemorate Mr. Floyd.”

Swearington said𒊎 social distancing amid the coronavirus would be followed.
