Attorneys for Breonna Taylor’s family have asked Kentucky’s governor to appoint a new special prosecutor in the case — and blasted state Attorney General Daniel Cameron for “intentionally” n🤡ot presenting 💞homicide charges against the three cops involved in her shooting, according to a report.
“Unfortunately, Cameron did not serve as an unbiased prosecutor in this case and intentionally did not present charges to the grand jury that would have pursued justice for Ms. Taylor,” reads the open letter addressed to Gov. Andy Beshear, .
The request was made a day after the release of 15 hours of recordings of a grand jury hearing that resulted in the indictment of one ofꦬ the officers involved in the botched drug raid in Louisville.
Former 🍎Detective Brett Hankison, who was cha🎶rged with wanton endangerment for shooting into the 26-year-old EMT’s neighbor’s apartment, has pleaded not guilty.
The other two cops — Sgt. Jon Mattingly and Detective Myles Cosgrove — who could have potentially faced charges were not indicted.
Benjamin Crump, one of the family’s attorneys, along with a link to the letter, saying, “This fight is NOT OVER! We DEMAND a new special prosecutor reopen #Breonna Taylor’s case!”
He added: “An innocent daughter, sister & friend was MURDERED by cops – & Kentucky’s leaders must hold those responsible accountable.”
, the family asks for 10,000 signatures🉐 in support of the request, and as of Monday morning, 7,969 people had signed.
“It’s an affront to justice that after Louisville police officers unlawfully broke into Breonna Taylor’s apartment and fatally shot her five times, only one officer faces minor charges, and for the bullets that didn’t hit Ms. Taylor,” the letter reads.
“Bre was a hero, a first responder who put her life on the line every day during this COVID-19 pandemic,” it continues. “Together, we demand a new grand jury to reopen Breonna Taylor’s case, immediately.”
The letter adds: “All lives have value. Bre’s life had special value because of the sacrifices she made for her community. It is past time for Louisville’s and Kentucky’s leaders to honor the value of her life by holding those responsible for her death accountable.”
Cameron has said he did not recommend the grand jury indict the officers, who had a no🧔-knock warrant, for homicide for Taylor’s killing.
The officers killed Taylor after entering her apartment and exchanging gunfire wit𓃲h her boyfriend, who has said he believed he was firing at intruders breaking into the apartment — not police officers.
