Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim tests positive for coronavirus

Legeꦑnda🐽ry Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim announced Sunday that he has tested positive for coronavirus.

The 75-year-old Boeheim , writing that the positive test came as part of the team’s routine COVID-19 protocolꦦs ꦓas he and his players and staff are tested multiple times each week.

“Following our most recent testing, I was informed that I had tested positive for COVID-19,” he said in a statement. “I immediately began my isolation period at home. I am not experiencing any symptoms at this time, and 𝄹will continue to monitor my health closely as advised by the medical staff. Thank you for the well wishes. I look forward to getting back on the court with my team.”

Another member of the program also tested positive for coronavirus, according to a statement from Syracu💯se athletic director John Wildhack.

“As such, we made the decision to pause all bask𝕴etball-related activities,” Wildhack said. “We are following all CDC guidelines and ACC protocols, and working closely with 🐼the Onondaga County Department of Health, to mitigate further transmission of the virus. All members of the basketball program will be tested again, multiple times, over the next week.”

Syracuse, which is supposed to open the season Nov. 27 against Bryant, wil🧔l have to pause all basketball activities for 14 days. It puts their first game being played as scheduled in serious doubt, though no official decision has been made. Boeheim, who has coached the Orange for 43 years, will need to stay isolated for at least 10 days from the positive test and at least one day after his recovery begins, according to ACC protocols.
