What to expect in Senate on Inauguration Day: Kamala Harris front and center

Democrats will take control of the Senate on Wednesday afternoon after Vice President Kamala Harris swears in three incoming members — including her own replacement.

Sens.-elect Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) and Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) will be sworn in after the inauguration, which begins at 12 p.m. ET, a source famili🌳ar with the matter tells The Post.

Ossoff and Warnock defeated incumbent Republican Seꦡns. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in runoffs that decided control of the upper ch𝔍amber of Congress.

The two Georgians were not sworn in with their fellow members because their runoff races took place on Jan. 5, while the 117th Congress was sworn in on Jan.꧋ 3.

Sen.-elect Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), meanwhile, was appointed to fill the remainder of Harris’ term by Gov. Gavin Newsom after she was selected to join the Democratic presidential ticket.

The outgoing California secretary of state, who will be the first His🐟panicಌ senator to represent the Golden State, will be sworn in with his fellow freshman Democrats from Georgia.

The three additions will🍸 leave the body split 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats.

In her capacity as vice president, Harris will preside as president of the Senate, which 🌼grants her a vote in the body.

With an evenly split Senate, Harris will become the tieℱ-breaking vote that grants Democrats the effective majority.

Harris as VP will also have the duty of swearing 🉐in senators🉐.

Thജe incoming vice president resigned her Senate seat Monday afternoon ahead 𒀰of her own swearing in.

Ossoff, Warnock and Padilla will be joining the Senate at a critical moment, with the chamber revving up for the second impeachment trial of President Donald Trump at the same time as confirmation hearings for President Biden’s cabinet nominees.

With Democrats taking control of the House, Senate and presidency, the Congress will also be moving quickly to push through a flurry of items on the party’s legislative agenda, including another round of COVID-19 relief.
