NYC stepdad released without bail after allegedly strangling teen stepson is rearrested after Post report
The Bronx ex-con freed without bail after being charged with strangling his 15-year-old stepson to death was rearrested Thursday — as it was revealed he admitted to choking teen Corde Scott for getting bullied at school.
Gov. Kathy Hochul said Tyresse Minter — who was released Wednesday by a lenient Bronx judge after getting hit with manslaughter and negligent homicide charges in Corde’s Jan. 23 slaying — was back in police custody over a parole violation.
“My top priority is 💮public safety,” Hochul said in a statement. “Earlier today, the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision issued a warrant for Tyresse Minter𒀰, and he is now in custody.”
Hochul sai🍬d the Department of Correctio🌺ns was “initiating the parole revocation process” on Minter over his arrest for allegedly slaying the teen.
Minter, 28, was arrested on an attempted murder charge in 2018 but cut a sweetheart deal and pleaded guilty to assault. He was sentenced to state prison in 2019 and w✅as released in Dece𒅌mber.
He remains on parole until September,𓆉 records show.
He was still on parole when sources said he had picked up Scott at school on the day of the boy’s death after he was bullied at school, with the two getting into a scuffle in the family apartment.
In court Wednesday, Bronx Criminal Court Judge Naita Semaj agreed to release him without bail — despite the fact that prosecutors asked that he be held without bail. Even his public defender asked for $10,000 bail in the case.
It was unclear why Minter wasn’t immediately charged with a parole violation. Parole officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Scott’s mother, Karen Glenn, told The Post Thursday that she even called the state parole board herself on Wednesday about Minter’s parole status and was told there was nothing they could do.
“I couldn’t believe what was happening,” Glenn said. “I have to fight for my son. Corde cannot talk anymore. This is my son.”
It wasn’t until Thursday that Minter was finally rearrested.
“We will continue working closely with the Br🉐onx District Attorney’s Office throug🍎hout this process as it prosecutes the charges, and we will continue coordinating with our partners in law enforcement to strengthen public safety across the state,” Hochul said in her statement.
It wasn’t the first time the governor stepped in to get a parolee locked up.
In August, Hochul ordered the arrest of sex fienꦑd Van Phu Bui, who was released without bail after slugging a stranger an꧋d knocking him into a coma.
Bui, 55, was ini✃tially charged with attempted murder but Bronx prosecutors dropped the charge to misdemeanor assault. Bui is a registered sex offender who had previously been convicted of sex🎃ually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.
Hochul said in her State of the State address in January that one of her top priorities was to fix the state’s fledgling bail reform laws.

Meanwhile, Glenn said s💎he was relieved that Minter was finally back behin🌺d bars.
“I’m very happy about this,” she said. “I believe in the justice system. I felt so defeated yesterday.”
