Disney widens legal war on DeSantis after he voids late power grab

Disney expanded its legal offensive against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Monday after he signed legislation voiding the House of Mouse’s 11th-hour attempt to defang his newly remade oversight board.

The entertainment giant amended a federal lawsuit against the would-be Republican presidential candidate, arguing that the bills formalized the governor’s “retribution” against the company.

The lawsuit additions also highlighted the state’s effort to exert more control over Disney’s monorail system.

“Governor DeSantis and his allies have no apparent intent to moderate their retaliatory campaign any time soon,” Disney wrote in the refreshed civil complaint, updating its initial filing from last month.

In an effort to dilute Disney’s quasi-governmental authority over its Florida operations, DeSantis stacked the board that oversees the company’s special tax district with his allies.

But bef꧙ore leaving, the outgoing members passed restrictions and covenants that returned power to the company and rendered the new Central Florida Tourism Oversight District largely impotent.

Th🐷e Florida legislature later passed bills voiding those deals and DeSantis signed off on them last week.

DeSantis’ running battle with Disney kicked off after the company denounced a bill banning instruction related to sexual orientation and gender identity for schoolkids in kindergarten through the fourth grad♕e.

The governor backed the law, asserting that the material was age-inappropriate and that parents should determine when sensitive to﷽pics are introduced to their children.

Opponents dubbed it the “Don’t Say Gay” law, arguing that it fomented anti-LGBTQ sentiment.

Martin Garcia, chair of DeSantis’ hand-picked oversight board, ripped Disney’s lawsuit last week at a meeting of the panel.

“Disney is asking a federal court in Tallahassee to wrestle back the hands of time to 1967,” he said. “While this board is instead charged legislatively with bringing the district 🤡i🍰nto the 21st century with new and better policies and practices.”

DeSantis and𒁏 his allies assert that Disney should no longer enjoy unchecked power within the♏ Sunshine State and should be subject to official scrutiny.

The company has countered that the governor wrongly singl꧂ed it out in order to burnish his culture war credentials.
