Georgia football team declines Joe Biden’s White House invitation

Georgia repeated as national champions but will not have a second consecutive corresponding White Hoā™’use visš’it.

The Bulldogs announced Tuesday that they are declining Joe Biden’s invitation to attend what is being deemed “College Athlete Day” on June 12.

ā€œThe University of Georgia first received on May 3 an invitation for the Bulldog football team to visit the White House on June 12,ā€ Georgia’s athletic association said in a statement. ā€œUnfortunately, the date suggested is not feasible given the student-athlete calendar and time of year.ā€

Several ā•months back, there were gripes among Georgąµ©ia supporters that the team had not been invited sooner.

ā€œIt is our hope that this repeat championsšŸ°hip team can join the many teams prior that šŸŒhave been honored by the President,ā€ to the White House in January, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In February, a President Biden official said the White House ā€œlooks forward to welcomingā€ Georgia, ā™”but the invitation did not aź§’rrive until last week.

The Biden White House just finished smoothing over a controversy in which first lady Jill Biden floated the idea of inviting Iowa’s women’s basketball team, which had finished as runner-up to LSU in the national championship last month.

ā€œI know weā€™ll have the champions come to the White House, we always do,ā€ the first lady said after watching the game. ā€œSo, we hope LSU will come. But, you know, Iā€™m going to tell Joe I think Iowa should come, too, because they played such a good gš“†ame.ā€

LSU star Angel Reese slammed the first lady’s idea.

ā€œIf we were to lose, we would not be getting invited to the White House,ā€ Reese said. ź©²ā€œRemember she made a comment about how both teams should be invited because of sportsmanship. Iā€™m like, ā€˜Are youāœ… saying that because of what I did?ā€™

ā€œStuffā›¦ like that bothers me because you are a woman at the end of the day, white, black, Mexican, it doesnā€™t matter. Youā€™re supposed to be standing behind us before anythingšŸŒŒ.ā€

Ultimately, after declining to commit to attending the White House visit, Reese said she wouldź¦æ go with LSU when they arešŸ’› honored on May 26.
