‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ crawls into No. 1 spot at box office

“Spider-Man” has quickly crawled his way to the top of the box office.

“The Little Mermaid,” which opened last week and made a big splash in theaters, fell to second place, with $11.8 million in sales.

Disney’s live-action adaption of the 1989 classic made headlines this week after IMDB announced it was changing its rating system due to “unusual voting activity” involving the film.

Horror-thriller “The Boogeyman,” also released Friday, came in third, with $5.9 million in sales. It is based on the short story of the same name by Stephen King.

“Guardians ꦜof the Galaxy Vol. 3″ was fourth, with a $2.9 million take.

“Fast X,” the 11th installment in the Fast and Furious” franchise, flew down to fifth, with earnings of $2.6 million.
