‘The Idol’ fans cringe at ‘nasty’ sex scene: ‘Will never see The Weeknd the same’
“The Idol” was again “‘” out several viewers during the already controversial show’s second episode on Sunday.
Fans of musician The Weeknd — born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye — claimed they will never be able to look at the superstar again after a “nasty” sex scene featuring the pop singer aired on the new HBO drama.
The eye-popping scene saw the singer, who plays club owner and cult leader Tedros, and Jocelyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp)꧒ getting intimate with each other — in a way that rubbed v🐬iewers wrong.
One Twitter user, who and posted the scene online, claimed that she would “never see The Weeknd the same after this.”
At one point during the steamy scene, a deadpanned Tesfaye, 33, says that he wants to “f–kin stretch that tiny, little p—y” while 24-year-old Depp’s character pleasures herself.
Several other social media♕ users also agreed with the sentiment.
“It sounds better when he is singing these lines,” one user. “As much as I can get with a scene like this like the next, something about his delivery made me uncomfortable.”
“He definitely gives me the ick after that episode,” a second person.
“I’ll never be able to ever listen to any Weeknd song the same way again if I watch this show,” a third person.
Other Twitter users claimed the scene to be “straight-up off-putting,” “nasty” or “a very hard watch.”
Despite the gross sexual nature of the scene, some social media users took aim at the “Blinding Lights” singer’s acting ability.
“He makes Harry Styles seem Oscar-worthy,” one user.
“Bro … that’s really his face when he says things like that,” a second person. “Like … He really thought he looked sexy or provocative? Naaaaa I would laugh and go, it’s so cringe and funny.”
One user that the R&B singer simply “looked so goofy.”
The Post reached out to Tesfaye for comment.
According to a report in March, the show was intended to be a more “disturbing” version of “Euphoria” and was accused of being “torture porn.”
“It was like a🌠ny rape fantasy that any toxic man would have in the show — and then the woman comes back ไfor more because it makes her music better,” one anonymous source told the publication.
Both Depp and Tes♉faye fired back 🐼at the allegations, claiming it was not true.
After the show’s lukewarm premiere on June 4, several critics expressed their disgust for the show.
“Girl I’m ten minutes in and this writing is absolutely terrible. It’s also like I can tell they’re acting,” one viewer.
“‘The Idol’ is simultaneously awful self-parody, a pretentious art project, and grotesquely exploitative of its subject matter,” another user. “Sam Levinson’s dialogue is about as natural as a chicken nugget. The Weekend’s performance is awful. It feels like a show made by CIS men ’cause it is.”
One reviewer “straight-up pornographic” while expressing their concern that “the show heavily exploits Lily … I hope she’s okay with it all because it comes off very exploitative.”
“The Idol” airs Sundays at 9:30 p.m. EST on🤡 HBO and will also stream on Max.
