Precincts across Chicago — as well as other public spaces, like airports — have become makeshift shelters after officials declared a state of emergency due to the migrants flooding into the sanctuary city since last August.

Most are from Veneಌzuela, and have come to the city after crossing the border to join friends and relatives. Some have been bused to the area by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott or on buses organized by charity groups.

Officers have previously complained about getting “zero assistance” from new Mayor Brandon Johnson, who claimed in his inaugural add🍌ress “there’s eno🙈ugh room for everyone in the city of Chicago.”
