Conor McGregor has joined in the mourning of Irish singer, Sinead O’Connor, who died at the age of 56 on Wednesday.
“Th🗹e world has lost an artist with the voice of an ꦇAngel. Ireland has lost an iconic voice and one of our absolute finest, by a long shot. And I have lost a friend,” .
“Sinead’s music will live on and continue to inspire! Rest In Peace, Sinead you are home with 💮your son I am sure.”
O’Connor, who is most widely known for her 1990 single ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ that went No. 1 around the world, sang during McGregor’s walkout at UFC 189 in Las Vegas in July 2015.
The Irish fighter 🧸reportedly developed a close friendship with the singer throughout his career.
“The world has lost a beautiful voice and an even more beautiful person,” McGregor said, . “I am honored to have known her, to have played her music both in and out of the Octagon. God rest Sinéad.”
O’Connor’s family released a statemeꦛnt on Wed🃏nesday, confirming the news of her death.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad,” the statement read. “Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
O’Connor’s passing comes after her 17-year-old son Shane died last year, days after he🐽 was reported ♏missing from a hospital while on suicide watch.
She is survived by three other children.
O’Connor, who released a record-setting 10 studio albums, was outspoken in her social and political views, drawing some c✤ontroversy to her career.
While performing on Saturday Night 🌠Live in 1992, O’Connor tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II to protest against sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. She was banned from NBC for life.
