Carson Beck wins starting QB job as Georgia looks to capture three-peat

Carson Beck will be leꦐading Georgia’s quest for a three-peat.

Beck, a junior, beat out Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton in a training camp battle to replace Stetson Bennett, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart announced Saturday.

“He’s done the best job,” Smart told reporters in Athen🀅s. “We communicated that e🅷arlier in the week to the other quarterbacks and we’ve kind of been operating that way.

“The other guys have done a tremendous job in terms of competing and they’re going to continue to do that.”

Beck, who threw for 310 yards as a backup last season, was the favor🐻ite coming into camp.

He took the opportunity and ran with it, closing the door on a quarterback controversy — at least for ဣnow — for the two-time title-winning outfit.

Bennett, a Heisman Trophy finalist last year and the offensive MVP of both Georgia’s national title game wins, set a high bar by coming from nowhere to be one of the best quarterbacks in the natio𝄹n.

He won the job after transferring fromཧ Georgia to Jones College — a JUCO in Mississippi — and back, commanding one of the most domin🃏ant title runs in history last year.

With Beck and newly install🐎ed offensive coordinator Mike Bobo replacing Todd Monken, the ex🌊pectation will be to pick up where they left off.

“Coach Bobo has done a great job with these guys, and they both made a lot of plays with their feet and done some goo⛄d things,” Smart said. “Carson has been in this offense for a year over one of them [Vandagriff] and two years over Gunnar. He’s just ahead.”

Smart has yet to decide who the No. 2 will be, saying🦂 both Vandagriff and Stockton will get reps with the first team over the next two weeks to try and earn the 🦩backup role.
