I use a genius lie to get my kids to brush their teeth — it saves money

You might want to brace yourselves for this one.

A mom of two is filling parents in on the ultimate hack to get kids to brush their teeth — one commenter called it “genius.”

Taking to a thread titled, “What are some mom hacks/ tricks/tips you do that make you feel like you are mastering the mom thing?” on the, the user wrote that she tells her daughters that the Tooth Fairy pays them based on how well they brush their teeth.

“Better teeth are worth more,” the parent wrote. “I heard one kid got $50 because they brushed twice a day and flossed and used fluoride!”

She added: “My 5 year old never forgets to brush their teeth, takes their time, and flosses, because they really want money.”

She even joked that this method is “cheaper” than paying to fill cavities or shelling out for other dental work, adding that the little trick lays the groundwork for “great dental hygiene.”

“Oh sometimes our tooth fairy leaves notes because she is just doing routine checks on her inventory…” the poster concluded.

In the comments section, many Redditors applauded the mom’s floss-ophy.

“Now how can I get my hubby to brush more often???” one wondered.

Another typed, “You are brilliant — I wished I joined this mom group in the years leading up to getting pregnant!”

Others shared their own tips to get kids to brush their teeth.

“I told my kids that the tooth fairy is unable to accept teeth with cavities in them, and in those instances, the tooth fairy calls in the tooth goblin to collect instead,” someone proposed. “They brush very well and never forget the floss. At the last dentist visit, they mentioned the tooth goblin and she was very amused.”

A second offered, “Instead of $, you can get a ‘treasure chest’ and let them pick a prize from it.”

This isn’t the only life hack parents have shared online in recent months.

Content creator Kellie Henry revealed what she does to get her kids to stop bickering with each other.

Each child gets assigned a day of the week when they are responsible for household chores and in charge of things like the movies the family will watch together.

“So on their day, they know they have to empty the dishwasher, take out the rubbish, they have to feed the dog,” Henry explained. “Anything around the house, if I might need extra help that day, they have to help me.

“But they also know, they get special treatment that day,” she added. “They get to choose their seat in the car that day, they get to say the family prayer, they get to help me choose what we’re making for dinner that night.”
