Bill Ackman laid blame for the drone attack that killed three American service members in Jordan over the weekend at the feet of President Biden — the latest broadside unleashed by the billionaire hedge fund manager against the 81-year-old commander-in-chief.
Ackman, who has urged Democrats to move on from Biden, said that the idea of giving the incumbent another four years in the White House is “dangerous and absurd.”
He echoed Republican lawmakers who assailed Biden over the weekend for failing to deter US enemies in the region, particularly Iran, which was blamed for the strike.
“Our enemies perceive weak American leadership, which has allowed them to attack us with impunity at a grave cost to our servicemen,” the 57-year-old founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital Management wrote on his X social media account on Sunday.
Ackman, who has also urged continued US support for Ukraine in its effort to beat back Russian troops who have invaded the country, wrote that the US has “arrived at a place where our enemies do not fear us.”
“We are not respected, and the world is a much more dangerous place as a result,” Ackman wrote.
Biden defenders said that the president and Democrats support more aid for Ukraine, but Republicans have stymied efforts to approve more funds due to disagreement over illegal immigration.
The president’s supporters also note that US service members were killed in attacks by pro-Iran militias following the Trump administration’s decision to liquidate Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, in Jan. 2020.
Ackman, who has endorsed Biden’s long-shot Democratic challenger Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota, added: “We need strength and leadership in the White House.”
The Post has sought comment from the White House.
Three GIs were killed and at least three dozen were wounded in a strike against a remote military based in northeastern Jordan, not far from the border with Syria.
The attack was carried out by a drone operated by suspected Iranian-backed militias in Syria and Iraq, according to US officials. Iran has denied involvement in the attack.
US forces in the region have been on high alert since the Oct. 7 assault by Hamas terrorists against Israeli soldiers and civilians that left nearly 1,200 dead.
“We had a tough day last night in the Middle East. We lost three brave souls,” the president said during a campaign appearance in South Carolina on Sunday.
For months, Ackman, who has raised his public profile with his fierce denunciations of Harvard administrators for their response to the Hamas attacks and anti-Israel sentimet among the student body, has been vocal about his view that Biden should decline to seek re-election.
In November, he opined that Biden is past his “peak” and should drop out of the race for the Democratic nomination for president.
Earlier this month, he warned that former President Donald Trump, who appears to be coasting to the GOP nomination following his victories in Iowa and New Hampshire, would “crush” Biden in a rematch in November.
Ackman has even donated $1 million to Phillips, the congressman who is the only Democratic lawmaker to challenge Biden.
Phillips and Marianne Williamson, the self-help author, are the only two Democrats who have officially declared their candidacies.
