Black Wisconsin schools chief resigns after hot mic reveals him calling Green Bay ‘lily’ white and principal ‘bitch’

A Wisconsin school district has been thrown into turmoil after its superintendent called his jurisdiction “lily” white and a district principal a “bitch” on a hot mic recording.

Dr. Claude Tiller Jr. resigned from his position as Greeღn Bay schools chief after a controversial appearance on an Atlanta radio show that rankled local board members and others in th🤪e community.

During a break in a radio program that airs on WAOK, Tiller was heard referring to a district principal as a “witch” and a “bitch” on the show’s still-broadcasting webcam and asserting the white woman was unfairly targeting a student of color.

Tiller, who was in Atlanta to recruit more black staffers to work in the district, said the 72-percent white town famous for football’s Green Bay Packers didn’t have enough minority educators.

The public school district is 40% white, 31% Hispanic and 9% black and 8🦂% Asian.

Tiller noted that 90% of his teachers were white.

“Because I have good teachers that strive to learn the culture of different populations, but you’re not in that culture,” he said.

Tiller ꦓsaid that he has had to parry stereotypes during ജhis time in the midwestern city.

“The mindset in Green Bay, Black and brown folks, it’s almost like stepping back in time.

“So I have to go debunking some micro-aggressions before I even go into,” he said. “They think majority of us we like fried chicken and watermelon. I prefer my chicken baked.”

The show’s host then characterized the town’s racial makeup as “lily white.”

“A lily on top of a lily,” Tiller said in response.

He also voiced in initial trepidations with working in such a white area, saying: “I said, Lord, I don’t want to go. I don’t want to go to no white district,” according to .

In response to another question about industry in Green Bay he responded: “Anything dealing with wiping your behind is in Green Bay. We make Charmin. We make Brawny… anything dealing with toilet paper.”

But Tiller’s resignation, which came after a closed door board meeting, only in the district.

Just this week, Native-American board member Laitinen-Warren stepped down from her post in the wake of Tiller’s ouster.

Speakers at a public meeting this past weekend demanded Tiller’s reinstatement, asserting his removal was racist.

The host of the radio program, Adrienne Berry,♐ ripped the Green Bay board as r💦acist.

“My initial thoughts were this is a very racist act and that he is being railroaded because he is the black first superintendent,” she said. “You have an all-white school board that brought him here. They couldn’t have possibly thought there wouldn’t be conversations about race.”

Others highlighted how Tiller’s comments came during an informal conversation with Berry during a break, and that they were not severe enough to trigger his departure.

The Green Bay School Board said individual members have been receiving threats over the issue, and has a🌞rgued that Tiller was represented by a lawyer throughout the process.

In a statement given after his remarks became public, Tiꦫller said he was drawing on personal experiences and insights.

“Simply put, I spoke my truth,” he said.

Tiller, who previously worked in Detroit’s public school system, was named superintendent last July.
