US college student critical after she’s run off the road while riding bicycle in Spain

A Massachusetts college student studying abroad in Spain suffered a “traumatic brain injury” after she was allegedly run off the road while riding her bicycle.

Laur🌳en Rauseo, a junior at Stonehill College, was on exchange studying in France and had taken a week🍬end trip to Spain when a car forced her to ride directly into a brick wall on March 17, Boston 25 , citing Spanish police.

Rauseo was also di🐻agnosed with a broken clavicle, broken hi𝓀p and a punctured lung, her father Dave Rauseo told the outlet.

She has since 🦩been placed in a medically in⛎duced coma in a Spanish hospital — showing small signs of improvement. 

“The prayers are working because we just left the hospital and she grabbed my hand and she was able to listen to her mom and open her eyes for her mom,” David Rauseo told the outlet. 

According to a GoFundMe page, Rauseo’s family needs to raise $250,000 to fly her home to a specialist pediatric ICU trauma unit in Boston.

“But that’s my goal now is to get my kid home and I just wante𒅌d to take a minute and thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for the support,” he said.

When the news of the incident reached her fellow S🌟toneh🍸ill classmates, her friends could not believe what had happened.

“When I got the news it was just horrible,” her friend, Lydia Chmielowiec, told the outlet. “She is the last person on earth to ever deserve something like that. She is the sweetest person I have ever met.”

Stonehill College is a private Catholic colleg🎃e in Massachusetts — located 22 miles south of Boston — with roughly 2,500 full-time students living on campus, according to their .

In Fe🎐bruary, Rauseo received a scholarship to study abroad for t🐲he entire Spring 2024 semester.

“I believe studying abroad is helping me become a moreꦚ woꦅrldly individual,” Rauseo .

“I am meeting a variety of people from different backgrounds and being exposed to new languages and cultures. I am also working hard to become more fluent in French. I’ve dedicated eight ye🎶ars to learning the language and I’m quite passionate about learning it.” 

She studies English, 💜Communications and French at the school, according to her Link♎edIn page.

A family friend who established the called her “a vibrant and compassionate young woman with dreams as wide as the ocean” and said Rauseo needs all the support she can get while she fights “for her life far from home.”
