Scottie Scheffler is going home to wife Meredith with a second green jacket in tow.
Moments after clinching his second Masters win in three years Sunday, shooting a final-round 68 for an 11-under par for the weekend, the reigning world No. 1 shared a touching message to his pregnant wife, who is expecting their first c꧒hild, in a post-tournament interview with CBS from Bunker📖 Cabin.
“I’ll be home as quick as I can,” Scheffler said, . “I love you and I’m coming home.”
Meredith, who wed Scheffler in 2020, missed this year’s tournament as she is due to give birth at the end of the month.
Scheffler, 27, told reporters Thursday he would be “ready to go at a moment’s notice” if Meredith went into labor.
“As far as her going into labor, I wouldn’t say I’m very concerned, we haven’t seen any of the early signs, but pregnancy is weird and it can happen at any time. But, yeah, open lines of communication and she can get ahold of me if she needs to,” he said after finishing the opening round with a six-under 68.
When asked about impending parenthood, S൲cheffler offered a rather candid response.
“People have asked us how our preparation is going for the baby and it’s like, well, I feel like we are a little underprepared. The nursery isn’t quite ready and we’ve had some issues at our house the last few weeks. I think that’s the exciting part. I think we are definitely underprepared to be parents,” he said.
Meredith was present at Augusta National in April 2022 when𒁃 Sche൲ffler won his first green jacket.
The couple sealed his victory with a kiss after h🌊e edged out Rory McIlroy in the final round that year.
Sunday’s win marked Scheffler’s second major victory — one he intends to savor as another life-altering moment nears.
“I will go home, soak in this victory tonight,” Scheffler said, . “I will definitely enjoy the birth of my first child. But with that being said, I still love competing. My priorities will change here very soon. My son or daughter will now be the main priority, along with my wife, so golf will now be probably fourth in line. But I still love competing. I don’t plan on taking my eye off the ball anytime soon, that’s for sure.”
