Georgia high school shooting suspect ID’d as Colt Gray, 14

The shooter who allegedly killedꦇ four people and wounded nine others at a Georgia high schꦐool on Wednesday has🎐 been ide𒀰ntified as 14-year-old Colt Gray, authorities said.

Gray, a student, opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder shortly 🃏before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chrisꦆ Hosey told reporters later that afternoon.

The🐻 gunman surrendered to police as soon as he was confronted by a school resource officer, Hosey said.

Hosey said the teen will be c꧃harged with murder as an adult.

The ca🍷mpus was crowded with law ♏enforcement vehicles from multiple agencies by 11 a.m.

At least two victims were evacuated via medic🀅al helicopter. Other casualties were treat🌱ed for gunshot wounds at a local hospital.

Two of the dead were students and two were teachers, Hosey said. One of the wounded was identified as David Phenix, a special education teacher at the school.

Phenix’s daughter, Katie, posted an update on Facebook that her dad had been shot in the foot and hip, “shattering” his hip bone.

“He arrived to the hospital alert and awake. He just got out of surgery and is stable. We will update♛ as we hear new information. We are so♐, so lucky, but please keep our family as well as the AHS family in your prayers,” she wrote.

The school building was evacuated and all the students were moved to the athletic stadium, where they were interviewed by the Georgia Bureau of꧒ Investigation and reunited with their parents, .

The ma🐬ssacre happened just five weeks into the new school year after Barrow Count𝔍y schools resumed classes Aug 1.

A number of students shared their harrowing recollection of the frenzy, some recalling grisly details like “a huge puddle of blood in the classroom.”

“My teacher goes and opens the door to see what’s going on. Another teacher comes running in and tells her to close the door because there’s an active shooter,” he said.

Caldera’s teacher locked the door and the students ran to the back𝔍 of the room, he recalled.

He said they he♈ard screams from outside as they hud﷽dled together.

At one point, Caldera said, someone banged on the classroom doo🦩r and yelled “Open up!💯” several times.

Camille Nelms, 14, told WXIA she remembered fearing for her ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚlife at the terrifying moment Gray entered her classroom. 

“I was crying. I didn’t want to die that way,” the teen told WXIA.
