“Glory Days” by Simon Rich

Ahead of the play’s debut, you can whet your Simon Rich-John Mulaney whistle by checking out the recently-released “Glory Days,” a collection of comedic short stories about aging Millennials by Rich and read aloud by Mulaney with his trademark comic verve.

Highlights include the laugh-out-loud funny “We’re Not So Different, You and I” about a supervillain hellbent on finding friends, the vindictive “The City Speaks” told from the perspective of New York City and the Aesop Fable-like “Riding The Rails” where a father strategically slips away to use the bathroom on a family trip so he can have a minute to himself only to meet a weary traveler who has all the best tips and tricks to elongate his sneaky break.

Often absurd, always hysterical and poignant, “Glory Days” fits right in with best of Rich’s oeuvre alongside the groundbreaking “Man Seeking Woman,” silly “Miracle Workers” and his landmark story “Sell-Out” which was adapted into the 2020 feature film “An American Pickle” starring Seth Rogen and Sarah Snook.
