State of Eh? Canadian official counters Trump’s 51st state proposal and offers to buy two American states
No, Canada.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford countered President-elect Donald Trump’s proposal to make Canada the 51st state of the Union — by making an offer to purchase two American state꧒s.
At a Monꦿday, the senior Canadian official got testy when a reporter asked if he thought Trump was serious with his talk of the United States 𒐪taking control of its economically dependent northern neighbor, Canada.
“To the president, I’llꩲ make him a counteroffer. How ab𝓀out if we buy Alaska? And we’ll throw in Minnesota and Minneapolis at the same time?” Ford said. “You know, it’s not realistic.”
“I know he lik♚es making these comments and he likes joking around — I take that seriously,” the premier said in relation to Trump’s recent public push to unify the two North American nations.
“He may be joking, but under my waಞtch, that will never, ever 𓃲happen.”
Ford has previ🎶ously tried to go tit-for-tat with The Donald.
Last month, Ford — the brother of the scandal-marred late Toronto Mayor Rob Ford — threatened to cut power to over 1 million Ame𓆉ricans and ban American-made beer over Trump’s 25% tariff proposal.
“It would cut off the lights to a million and a half Americans,” Ford said. “If they come at us, we have to stand up for ♍Canadians, we have to stand up for Ontarians.”
Canada is the No. 1 exporter of energy to the US, which spends around $3 billion annually on Canadian electricity to power residents of states like Michigan🅠 and New Yor🐟k.
Outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a simi꧂lar me🃏ssage for the former and future commander-in-chief.
“There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Cꦗanada would become part of the United States,” Trudeau, 53, . “Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being eac꧑h other’s biggest trading and security partner.”
Trump has rejected the notion that the United States needs Canada as a trading partner in any capacity — and has suggested that it beh♚ooves Ca꧅nadians to seek the protection of the mighty US military.
Trump first brought up the possibility of taking over Canada with Trudeau before h🀅is resignation announc𒆙ement — referring to him as the “governor of Canada” on several occasions.
On Monday, Trump reignited the issue 💖with a post on Truth Social as Tr🌠udeau said he planned to step down.
“Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State. The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat. Justin Trudeau knew th𓆏is, and resigned. If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no Tariffs, taxes would go way down, and they would be TOTALLY SECURE from the threat of the Russian and Chinese Ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, what a great Nation it would be,” Trum🅰p .
The soon-to-be prez also addressed the issue at a press conference at Ma♑r-a-Lago Tues𒆙day.
“Here’s the problem with Canada — we’re spending hundreds of billions of dollars to protect it,” he told reporters.
Trump then stated that the US didn’t need Canada’s cars, lumber, dai𓃲ry products, or their partnership inꦐ buying icebreaking ships.
“We don’t need anything they have. ༺So why are we losing $200 billion a year𒁃 to protect Canada?” Trump asked.
The incoming president furthe💟r stated that he would be willing to use economic power to get the outcome he d▨esires.
Trump continued his public campaign to take over the US ally on Truth Social on Tu🍒esday night — posting two m🦋eme-y maps.
One “UNITED STATES” written over an outline o🀅f both countries.
In🏅 another post, Canada a♍nd the United States were covered with the Stars and Stripes with the caption,

The president-elect has said the United States has economic and national securi🍎ty interest in Greenland.
“We will proܫtect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!,” the president-elect posted.
