NY woman spends 104th birthday in jail as part of special bucket-list wish

Her bucket-list wish was to get thrown in the can.

A Western New York woman lived out a life-long wish for her 104th birthday celebration, when some sheriffs officers allowed her spend some time locked up behind bars.

Loretta, a resident at the Avon Nursing Home in Geneseo, saw her bizarre dream come true last week when she willingly got tossed in the clink at the Livingston County Jail on Monday.

The centenarian was even offered a private tour of the facility, where she got to see the elaborate surveillance system and booking chambers up close and personal.

Loretta appeared thrilled in photographs of the experience, particularly in a shot where she was seen reaching for a pair of shackles.

Unlike other guests to the jail — typically visiting against their will — Loretta’s trip included a party complete with coffee and cake.

The tour came just two days after Loretta’s actual birthday on Feb. 8. Her loved ones and the sheriff’s office scrambled to make her dream a reality after she revealed that her only wish was “to see the inside of our Jail” because she had never been to jail before.

Before leaving, Loretta imparted some especially sage advice to Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty on how to live a long life.

“Mind your business!” she is quoted as saying.

The officers apparently had just as much fun as the centenarian: “Loretta had a great time touring our Jail facility and we are so glad that we were able to make her birthday wishes come true! Thank you for all the laughs today and for being a great sport!” the Sheriff’s Department

It is extremely rare for humans to live as long as Loretta,

Just 0.027% of the US population reaches age 100.

About 85% of centenarians are women.
