Pope Francis funeral: All the moments from the pontiff’s ceremony as he’s laid to rest

The funeral for Pope Francis, the first pontiff from the Americas, took place in Saint Peter’s Square in Rome’s Vatican City on Saturday morning. He arrived at Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome to be buried.

The Vatican announced on Saturday he had been buried in a closed, private ceremony at the basilica.

President Trump and first lady Melania, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, Britain’s Prince William, and more world leaders and dignitaries — plus an estimated 200,000 Catholics from across the globe — gathered to honor the late pontiff, who died on Easter Monday at age 88.
