Trump picks Fox News host Jeanine Pirro for interim DC US Attorney
President Trump went to the Fox News well once again to fill out his administration Thursday, picking “The Five” co-host Jeanine Pirro to serve as interim US Attorney for the District of Columbia.
“Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York,” .
“She is in a class by herself.”
“Congratulations Jeanine!”
A Fox News Media spokesperson told The Post Pirro was “a wonderful addition to ‘The Five’ over the last three years and a longtime beloved host across FOX News Media who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14-year tenure. We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington.”
Earlier Thursday, Trump pulled the nomination of Ed Martin to serve as the capital’s top federal prosecutor after Senate Republicans balked at the choice
“He’s a terrific person, and he wasn’t getting the support from people that I thought,” Trump said of Martin, whose period as acting DC US attorney was set to expire May 20.
“I can only lift that little phone so many times in a day, but we have somebody else that will be great,” he added.
Pirro, 73, is a former Westchester County prosecutor, judge and district attorney.
She was county prosecutor for 15 years, rising to the level of assistant district attorney, before being elected judge in 1990.
In 1993, she became the first woman elected to Westchester County’s top law-enforcement post.
The Albany Law School graduate served three terms as Westchester County District Attorney and gained a reputation as a relentless prosecutor of domestic violence cases.
“During her time in office, Jeanine was a powerful crusader for victims of crime,” Trump wrote in his announcement.
“Her establishment of the Domestic Violence Bureau in her Prosecutor’s Office was the first in the Nation,” the president noted. “She excelled in all ways.”
Pirro declined to run for re-election in Westchester County in 2005 — instead opting to challenge Hillary Clinton for her New York Senate seat.
Her Senate campaign was short-lived — she dropped out a few months after announcing her candidacy – but in 2006, Pirro was nominated as the GOP candidate for New York attorney general.
Pirro lost that race to future Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Pirro, a long-time cable news and morning talk show contributor, joined Fox News in 2011, after starring on the courtroom reality show “Judge Jeanine Pirro” on the CW Television Network.
Trump has tapped dozens of former Fox News hosts or contributors for administration spots in his second term.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy were co-hosts on Fox News and Fox Business, respectively, before being tapped for Cabinet posts.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard were Fox News contributors prior to their appointments.
Janette Nesheiwat, nominated to serve as Surgeon General, was a Fox News contributor as well.
However, Trump withdrew Nesheiwat’s nomination on Wednesday, opting to elevate “Make America Healthy Again” proponent and influencer Casey Means to the position.
