Suspect accused of shoving 70-year-old grandma in NYC subway station ordered held on $45K bail
A woman-hating goon with 20 busts on his rap sheet is finally behind bars after being nabbed for allegedly shoving a 70-year-old grandmother to the ground at a Midtown subway station.
Sherlock Arana, a 37-year-old career criminal, was ordered held on $45,000 bail on second-degree assault charges after getting nabbed for the Monday morning alleged attack on Janet Parvizyar, an LA resident visiting the Big Apple.
The victim was at the Lexington Avenue/53rd Street station around 10:30 a.m. when, police said, Arana came up to her and asked, “What are you doing here?”
The thug then shoved her into the wall, and then to the floor, she said.
“I don’t understand, why did they let them go like this,” Parvizyar told The Post this week. “I mean, they have to do something about this. He’s going to kill somebody.”
Bystanders came to her aid but the goon took off before they could get to him — but alert cops who recognized Arana from surveillance video and a wanted poster caught up with him Wednesday morning, sources said.
According to a criminal complaint, the attack left Parvizyar with a twisted ankle and “substantial pain” to her head and neck. She was treated at NYU Langone Medical Center and released.
Manhattan prosecutors asked that Arana be held on $45,000 cash bail or a $90,000 bond, but the judge ruled for a $45,000 bond, the same amount as the cash bail.
Arana has a history of assaulting women, and was sentenced to nine months in jail nearly a decade ago for attacking a woman at a Queens subway station.
He was last arrested in 2023 on a robbery charge — among his nearly two dozen arrests, law enforcement sources said.
“I was walking to work and he came up behind me and punched me in the face,” the 23-year-old victim of that attack said Thursday. “I was fighting back and he grabbed my bag and ran off.”
She said the random assault left her with a split lip and a knock on her forehead.
“They’re gonna keep letting him out,” the woman added. “When it happened, they just let him go. It was a little crazy.”
She said she no longer lives in Queens.
According to sources, Arana has targeted women he believes to be Indian in the earlier incidents. Parvizyar, his latest victim, is Iranian.
“It’s scary, really scary, when you don’t expect something like this to happen to you,” she told The Post.
